Without a doubt, this is the most difficult day in Fortiscorde’s history.
Today, we said goodbye to Max, our beloved Cocker Spaniel. Fortiscorde simply would not exist if it were not for this legend of a dog.
Max was one of those rare dogs who truly knew his job and loved every moment of doing it.
He possessed an exceptional nose and an outstanding record of finding the most difficult birds. Time and time again, we received wonderful comments and praise about his hunting ability from those fortunate enough to see him work. He had an instinct that simply could not be taught and a drive that never seemed to fade.
Yet what made Max truly special was his ability to switch effortlessly between two worlds. Away from the field, he was a gentle soul, kind, affectionate, and happiest in the company of those he loved. The moment he went to work, however, he became the perfect gundog: focused, determined, intelligent, and utterly dependable. His ability to be both a loving family pet and an exceptionally hardworking dog was nothing short of incredible.
Max was not only an outstanding working dog but also the foundation of so much that followed. He sired many wonderful puppies, not least Tom, who has grown into a fantastic dog in his own right and carries so much of his father’s ability, determination, and character.
My dearest Max, I am the trainer I am today because of you. You allowed me to learn from you and with you. It has been a privilege to have been your human.
You were my teacher, my partner, and my friend. Through every success, every lesson, and every challenge, you were there. The legacy you leave behind will continue through the dogs you produced, the people whose lives you touched, and the memories you gave us all.
Max will be very much missed by everyone in the Fortiscorde family and by the many friends who had the pleasure of knowing him. Our home will not feel the same without him.
You will always be my number one.
